About the Programme
Pick n Pay Retailers (Pty) Ltd is offering an exciting opportunity for young South Africans to launch their careers in the butchery trade through the MasterCut Apprentice to Artisan Programme. This full-time apprentice programme is designed to equip participants with expert-level skills in meat processing, hygiene, packaging, and customer service — setting them on a path to become certified Meat Artisans.
Whether male or female, if you’re determined, physically fit, and eager to work in cold environments while learning hands-on, this programme is for you.
What You Will Learn
- Meat Mastery: How to cut, trim, portion, and prep meat like a pro (including sausages and cold cuts)
- Packaging & Display: Weighing, wrapping, and creatively displaying products
- Hygiene & Safety: Cleanliness standards and tool handling
- Operations: Stock management, floor operations, and handling equipment (including band saws)
- Customer Service: Guiding customers and providing expert meat tips at the counter
Who Can Apply
- Unemployed South African youth aged 18 to 34 years old
- Physically strong and comfortable working with your hands and on your feet
- Passionate about food and keen to learn
- Comfortable working in cold environments
